Brene Brown says that faith is part vulnerability, part mystery. Maybe you can say the same thing about prayer: offering up our lives to God is not linear or transactional, but instead transformational in part because of that vulnerability and mystery of welcoming the holy into our lives. Prayer is a courageous gesture toward God that makes room for what is new, holding both hope and uncertainty.

With children, it seems, everything is both hope and uncertainty, vulnerability and mystery. For that reason, parenting is prayer itself.

God, be in all that is vulnerable. Surround us in uncertainty. Encircle us with hope. Enclose within our daily lives the gift of holy mystery and the practice of prayer. Amen.

Activity: Dinner Prayers

Meals are an important place to make connect with your family and with God. Start by sharing highs and lows (some call these roses and thorns) then say a simple prayer together. This printable favorite dinner prayers card has a few Kenilworth Union Church staff favorites.
