Types of Help Needed: In-kind donations

Service Opportunity Details: An individual could organize a supply drive or reach out to businesses to ask for donations of specific items. A wishlist can be found at: myregistry.com/giftlist/slm. Many of the items are for when new residents arrive. Volunteers could assemble welcome care packages for a new resident (or a year’s worth of new residents!) from the suggested items. These could include new sheets and towels, new comforter, PJs, toiletries, a shower caddy, and a backpack. Approximately 35 women come to Grace House each year, and 80 men come to St. Leonard’s.

Sarah’s Circle

Service Opportunity Details: In-Kind Donations Coordinator: Each week, Sarah’s Circle receives in-kind donations such as toiletries, books, snacks and periodic large shipments of food that are critical to what we can offer women on a daily basis. Many donations received are used quickly and need to be replenished often. Also, certain times of year create a higher demand for items needed. Responsibilities include: accept and organize donations at Daytime Support Center; clean and sort storage closet; help clients find items they are looking for; take inventory of supplies and donations; deliver items to Interim Housing facility; work with staff to plan monthly clothing giveaways; deliver items to Care for Real as needed; accept shipments of food and assist kitchen staff with proper storage of food.

Frequency: On-going

Frequency Details: Weekly time commitment of 3-4 hours. Minimum 3 months required. Daytime Center volunteers needed Monday through Friday during business hours. Interim Housing Volunteers needed anytime including evenings and weekends.

The Settlement also accepts a wide range of items for our programs including: boxed/canned foods; kitchen supplies; cleaning supplies and laundry detergent; toiletries; first aid items; sheets, blankets and towels; winter outerwear; clothing, socks and shoes; strollers, walkers, canes and playpens; used furniture; office chairs and other furniture; school supplies; tos and board games, sports equipment (good condition); children’s books (new or lightly used); lawn and gardening tools; gift cards.

Service Opportunity Details: In-Kind initiatives currently organized internally by Lawrence Hall have the opportunity to be involve volunteers, either in helping to plan or execute them. They include: Back to School Supply Drive: Ensuring all 600+ of the youth in school (Kindergarten-College) receive a backpack filled with supplies needed to succeed at the start of the school year. Turkey Drive: Ensuring all Lawrence Hall families in critical need receive a Thanksgiving box filled with all food items to prepare a Thanksgiving Dinner. Coat Drive: Ensuring all of our youth have a warm coat during the cold months. Holiday Gift Drive: Ensuring all 700+ of the youth in our programs have a gift to open during the Holiday Season. Foster Care Holiday Party: Volunteers are needed to help provide food, beverages, decorations and cookies for the annual Lawrence Hall Foster Care Holiday Party hosted for our Foster Care families and children each December.
