KUC Adventures

With autumn routines falling into place, now is a great time to consider the many Fellowship opportunities that Kenilworth Union Church offers. Regardless of your age, ability level, or your involvement with the church, you can find a place you will be welcomed.

One group, KUC Adventures, brings people of all ages and skill sets together to enjoy outdoor activities with a cultural twist. Liz Dickey has led this interesting and fun group for six years with a positive spirit that comes through in her organizational skills and creativity. Recent outings include a flamenco concert at the Chicago Botanic Garden, kayaking on the Nippersink Creek, and a walking tour of the Ukrainian Village neighborhood with the Chicago Architectural Foundation.

While the beautiful backdrops alone are worth the trip, the sense of community gained through these excursions is what keeps people coming back. KUC Adventurer Carol Berry wrote of the kayaking trip: “From the car-pooling fellowship, to the camaraderie and laughter on the river, along with the utter peacefulness and beauty of the meandering water, to the bond created from appreciating the whole God-filled experience with fellow nature lovers, it is what I love best about our church.” Bob Paddock agrees: “Especially meaningful were simple, beautiful sights and critters I had seen as a boy growing up on the Fox River; some continuing comfortable conversations while drifting with a friendly paddle partner; and enjoyable exercise.”

Commenting on the tour of the Ukrainian Village, Catherine Weaver wrote, “After the tour, we continued our exploration of Ukrainian culture with lunch at a local restaurant where we sampled Ukrainian cuisine and shared our favorite highlights of the tour. It was a wonderful way to enjoy fellowship with familiar friends and connect with new ones.”

The KUC Adventures group is just one of more than a dozen Fellowship opportunities. You are invited to learn more about Fellowship here, or to contact Sallie Smith who would be more than happy to connect you with a group.
