April 2018 Youth Update

Written by: Julia Smolucha
  • IMPACT The IMPACT high school mission team held its annual Easter Bake Sale to raise funds to support it’s work in Cuba this June and on April 8, this crew was active at church.  On April 8…

    • The IMPACT Junior Board met to tackle the last tasks of the program year.  Oh—and hey—Junior Board Co-chair, Niki Urban, was featured in the last issue of Sheridan Road!

    • then a group of about 25 high school Juniors joined the conversation about the drinking and drug culture they are growing up in and,

    • finally, youth and parents—over 150 in all—filled the Culbertson for a presentation about details for the Cuba mission trip in the evening.

  • Youth Groups Wednesday youth groups resumed on April 4 after Spring break to fun, games, prayer, and discussion.  Our middle schoolers (grades 5–6) and Junior Highers (grades 7–8) along with a great team of CORE leaders (high school) enjoyed lively games of catacombs and look forward to more fun in the last two months of the program year.

  • Breakfast Club The bacon you smell on Sunday mornings is served at Sunday youth breakfast for 7th and 8th graders and often led by High School students.  We are almost through a study of Luke, based on the video series by the Bible Project (cool vids—check them out) and will wrap up the year with a Kahoot! Tournament on May 6 and 13. On April 8, the youth decided we should call Sunday mornings the Breakfast Club.  So “Breakfast Club” it is!

  • Confirmation On April 15, after a year of study and fulfilling requirements, forty-three amazing teenagers were confirmed in their Christian Faith and welcomed as members of the Church at the 10:30 a.m. worship service in the sanctuary and afterwards at their celebration service.

    • Registration for next year’s confirmation class is online now and is open to current 8th graders and older.

  • Service Last, our teens are continuing to do the work of God in this place and in the world with over 1,000 hours of volunteer service complete so far this year.  They are continuing to serve over the next two months.  Look for another update in May and in the meantime, see photos on the @kucyouth Instagram.
