Service is a part of all that we do in Sunday school.
Our lessons in the Bible are centered around serving, and they extend beyond the classroom for additional opportunities to serve. Examples include 1st—6th grade Club Nights, Food Packing Event, Advent Worship Service and both local and global efforts, such as our Ghana Project and our relationship with St. Gregory Episcopal School for Boys. We depend on parents to volunteer and to encourage their children to participate. We hope to move from awareness to compassion through appropriate programs for our children.
Each year, the children and families of Kenilworth Union Church partner with an outreach agency. Throughout the year, there are opportunities for fellowship, education and service. For 2007-2008, Kenilworth Union Church will work with The Night Ministry in Chicago.
Since 1976, The Night Ministry has served people at difficult crossroads in their lives. The staff and trained volunteers listen and respond affirmingly to the needs of people on the nighttime streets of Chicago – regardless of race, ethnicity, religion, sexual orientation or social status. The Night Ministry works throughout many neighborhoods to connect with homeless and runaway youth, children who are unsupervised and need a place to gather in safety, working poor adults, and more.
