Children’s Ministries : Sunday School

Our Sunday School program follows the school calendar. We begin the first Sunday after Labor Day and our last day is Children’s Day, the first Sunday in June. Sunday School takes place at 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM. Children learn a different Bible story each week.  Teachers, high school helpers and children attend chapel together for 30 minutes and spend the other 30 minutes in class.

Crib and Toddler Care is a priority in our church community. We have, and we continually seek, dedicated volunteers to consistently care for our youngest while their parents attend worship. We will ask parents to take their turn in the nursery.

Three year olds through Second Graders learn the stories, songs and prayers of our faith in class and chapel. During the first half of the year, children will learn stories of the Old Testament, Advent and the birth of Jesus. After Christmas, children learn stories of Jesus and the New Testament. Third and

Fourth Graders “earn and learn” about the Bible. Third graders memorize and learn the meaning of scriptures. They also follow the sequence of the Bible in their lessons. Fourth graders follow the same format but learn about the Bible they earned. This is done through games, songs, group work, puzzles, projects and discussion.

Fifth and Sixth Graders work to create a Bible Habitat of Jesus’ Day. The two classes have different hands-on tasks and projects culminating in “visits” by the younger children. These students also share other special experiences such as a Hebrew “wedding,” a Passover supper, and geographical and scriptural “journeys” through the times and travels of Jesus and Paul.

Seventh and Eighth Graders attend the worship service with their class and stay until the end of the Sermonette for Youth. Students then meet as a class to study in more detail some familiar Bible stories and learn new, more age appropriate Bible stories.
