IMPACT mission trip 2017 Destination Belize

IMPACT is a program of Kenilworth Union Church Youth Ministries.  It is an experiential program open to all high school students, regardless of church affiliation, that challenges participants to live and grow in Christian faith and love for the world.

College leaders who have graduated high school and are in college or another vocation. If you are 21 or older and have mission trip experience, contact Silvi Pirn about being considered for a role as an adult team leader.

College Students and other high school graduates are invited to help lead a team of high school youth on the June mission trip.

 

Please Consider the following commitments before registering:

Mission Trip

Mission Trip Dates are Saturday, June 10 (evening) – Sunday, June 18 (evening), 2017
The IMPACT program is NOT able to accommodate requests to check in late, join the trip late or leave early.  IMPACT cannot allow trip participants to be “checked out” to meet with family or others during the trip.

Travel Requirements:
Passport required:  must be valid through December, 2017
Vaccinations:  Standard Vaccinations must be up-to-date
Recommended vaccinations for all travelers:  Typhoid, Hepatitis A
All travelers must carry medication prescribed for travelers diarrhea

  • Program Fee is $1,475 (scholarship support available – see below**)

    The fee includes all programming and includes flights, food, lodging and transportation for the June mission trip.

    The fee is due with registration and there are three options:

    • pay in full
    • installment plan (pay over 4 months)
    • pay by check / arrange for scholarship

    Refund Policy:

    • Full refund if participant withdraws before February 1, 2017
    • Refund of fees paid less $150 if participant withdraws before April 15, 2017
    • No refunds after April 15.

    **Scholarships

    Kenilworth Union Church Youth Ministries does not want program cost to be a barrier to participation.  Confidential scholarship requests can be made by email to Rev. Katie Lancaster.

    Meeting and Event Attendance:

    All who register are making a commitment to attend IMPACT meetings on Sunday evenings as scheduled.  Please check your activities calendar and make sure you will be available the following dates:

    • January 22 :  7-8 pm – Program Orientation meeting with Parents
    • January 29 :  7-8 pm
    • February 12 :  7-8 pm
    • March 5 :  7-8 pm
    • March 19 :  7-8 pm
    • April 9 :  7-8 pm – Trip information Night with Parents
    • April 30 :  7-8 pm
    • May 14 :  6-8 pm – IMPACT team night
    • May 21:   10:15 am attend Sunday morning worship at Kenilworth Union Church for Team Commissioning before trip.

    In addition to whole-group meetings, IMPACT will host an “experience” session participants in each grade level.  Attendance is required.  Any absence will have to be made up:

    • The Senior Experience:  Sunday, February 12, 4:30 – 6:45 pm
    • The Freshman Experience:  Sunday, March 5,   4:30 – 6:45 pm
    • T he Sophomore Experience:  Sunday, April 9, 4:30 – 6:45 pm
    • The Junior Experience:  Sunday, April 30, 4:30 – 6:45 pm

    These schedules are subject to change.

    If you anticipate possible conflict on multiple dates, please contact program director, Silvi Pirn, before registering.

    Fundraising:

    Mission fees cover personal expenses for the program and the trip, including airfare, ground transportation, lodging, meals, excursions and incidentals.  Additional funds will be raised to cover the cost of the projects we plan for the trip.

    Participants are required to participate group fundraisers.  This will include baking for and/or selling at the annual IMPACT Easter Sunday Bake Sale, April 16 and up to one additional group fundraiser tbd.

    Participants will also be required to write fifteen (15) personal letters to friends and family to request sponsorship for construction and mission projects in Belize.  Instructions for writing these letters will be shared at a meeting in March.

    Ten Volunteer Service Hours through Kenilworth Union Church:

    Each program participant is required to complete ten(10) total hours church volunteer service through Kenilworth Union.  Three (3) or more of those hours must be completed off-site in the community.  There are regular opportunities to serve at church on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings and there will be additional opportunities posted for sign up on the kucyouth website.

    Accountability/Behavior:

    ALL participants are required to connect to Kenilworth Union Church Youth leadership on social media.  This includes, but is not limited to snapchat, instagram, facebook, youtube, oovoo, vine, etc.

    Participants are accountable for their live and online behavior and shall not exhibit conduct that glorifies or associates with drug or alcohol intoxication, illegal use of substances, criminal acts, racism, antisemitism, bullying, online harassment, violence, sexual promiscuity or exploitation.
