This weekend, our largest IMPACT team to date (nearly 90 all together with teens and adult leaders) will travel to Sumpango, Guatemala for a week-long mission trip —a week of living in community and serving the poor in the name of Jesus. Pause and think what a rare opportunity it is for anyone to live and serve in the name of Jesus, especially when our lives are pulled in so many directions. On behalf of our mission team, I thank the Lord for this precious gift.
I ask you, our sending congregation, to pray for us. If I were to pick a prayer for our mission team, I could not improve on the one Paul wrote to the Ephesians 3:14–21 some 2,000 years ago:
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven and on earth takes its name. I pray that, according to the riches of his glory, he may grant that you may be strengthened in your inner being with power through his Spirit, and that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith, as you are being rooted and grounded in love. I pray that you may have the power to comprehend, with all the saints, what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, so that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.
Now to him who by the power at work within us is able to accomplish abundantly far more than all we can ask or imagine, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever. Amen.
In life together as Christians, we find new insight into God’s kingdom. During this week in Guatemala, our team will have time to listen to one another and discover stories of faith beyond our own and participate in and observe acts of kindness and generosity. Please pray that we will discover God and the world as we never have before. Please pray that we may be filled with “all the fullness of God” and that we may know and trust in the love of Christ.
