Spotlight on Women’s Bible Study

by Carolyn Armstrong and Michelle Astolfi

Every Wednesday afternoon a group of women gather in the Malott Chapel to hear and discuss God’s word spoken through scripture. Currently we are exploring Malachi, the last book in the Old Testament. Lisa Harper, a theological scholar and humorous storyteller, leads us through her workbook and DVDs to explore God’s timeless love for His people.

The Bible study is a whole group discussion with two of the members facilitating it rather than teaching it. Materials are selected from LifeWay, an online Christian resource center. A workbook with a week’s worth of homework is reviewed and discussed in class, followed by the viewing of a DVD and prayer.

Beginning this spring on March 30 , we will study Priscilla Shirer with BREATHE—making room for Sabbath and breaking the bondage to our busyness. We already know next fall’s study: Beth Moore, who follows the life and ministry of Paul.

Perhaps the most special part of our Bible study group is that we’re all in different stages of life: there are empty nesters learning right alongside moms with preschoolers. Not everyone is a Kenilworth Union Church member, but we’re all there together supporting one another through the ups and downs in our lives. Tears of sadness and much laughter have been shared as we continue to question, accept, and grow in our faith journey.
